Jim is an inspiration to many who know him due to his strength, determination, and positive attitude while battling brain cancer (Glioblastoma Multiforme).

Jim was diagnosed with brain cancer in the fall of 2016. Since his diagnosis Jim has found the strength to seek as much normalcy in his life as possible. He finds normalcy in having a consistent work schedule, running schedule, and time with his wife Jessica and friends. Jim continues to work as much as possible between his medical appointments and high levels of exhaustion.

Jim has successfully had brain surgery to remove as much of the tumor as safely possible and radiation. He continues to receive chemotherapy on a regular scheduled basis and Optune on a daily basis. The treatment Jim has received is the standard protocol for his diagnosis. He has been told their are limited resources for him with a reoccurrence. At the time of a reoccurrence, Jim will need to look at clinical trials for treatment.

Jim is uncertain of what his future holds for him medically and the GoFundMe page has been set up to support him and his wife Jessica  with current and future medical expenses as we do not want financial restrictions to influence any medical decisions he needs to make

An Update From Jess

Well, I think it is important to know this was officially the first week of hospice for Jim.

Hospice has been helpful in making changes to Jim’s medication to better manage his pain and providing supplies to help better meet Jim’s needs in the house. As a result of hospice, we were also able to get equipment to improve Jim’s mobility including a walker, wheelchair, and hospital bed.

Jim’s health continues to change on a daily basis. The most noticeable changes have been his decrease in mobility as he needs support when moving about. Most of Jim’s movement is between the bed and the wheelchair. Another noticeable change has been his lack of or minimal appetite and his increase in sleeping. Jim is generally sleeping between 12-16 hours per day.

Jim continues to have a number of visitors coming and going from the house. I love seeing our friends and family coming by to visit and spend time with Jim. Even though he is often sleeping or has his eyes closed, I know he is listening as he he will smirk when he hears something funny or will snarl when he disagrees.

Thank you for all of the cards and letters we are receiving in the mail. Please keep them coming. I continue to sit down with Jim and read all cards, letters, and kind encouraging words. Sometimes it is easier than other times to read your kind and loving words out loud to Jim as it can be quite an emotional experience and there has been more than one occasion Jim has asked me to stop crying on him. So, per his request I am trying my best to keep my emotions in check for him and will pre-read the cards so I am emotionally prepared when I read them to Jim.

I do have another request... if you have any pictures from Jim throughout his life can you please feel free to email them to me at jesswinkels@gmail.com. Can you also include any stories about the pictures?

We are looking forward to the benefit taking place on Saturday March 10th. We are hearing about a number of people participating in the event and understand there are a number of wonderful items for the silent auction.

As we start another work week, please love with all you have, be inclusive and kind to others, and bring happiness and light into the world.

Thank you for all the love and support.

An Update From Jess
It's times like this that I think about our lives and our future.

As you know, Jim was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) in October of 2016, it is a horrible and aggressive brain cancer. Jim and I knew reoccurrence was possible; however, we were not expecting it to happen so soon.

While Jim is healing from his craniotomy we will be having some conversations with our medical team as to how to proceed.

We don't want finances to impact our decisions on medical treatment.

Thank you for all the love and support.
